The National Party released its list for the 2023 election this weekend. ALRANZ has looked at how these candidates voted on law reform in 2020, safe areas in 2021, and their public comments on abortion to determine whether they support abortion rights or not. Does this look like a party you would trust to advance reproductive rights in Aotearoa New Zealand?
Is it possible National will restrict any reproductive rights in becoming government? I note that Louise Upston is a Paula Bennett clone and I am worried about my autistic daughter if Upston has any say in the matter. With Luxon being a fundamentalist Christian I would not trust him at all. I am very concerned that people like the O’Neills may once again harass women going to the hospital. I was active in the pro-choice movement in Dunedin years ago.
